A complete review of the All American Plan Resort, nestled along the shores of Sebago Lake in Casco, ME.
Somewhere, I’ve read that Migis Lodge is reminiscent of the entire backdrop to Dirty Dancing, but I’ve never seen the film Dirty Dancing so this is not something I can confirm firsthand.
But don’t stop reading, because what I can tell you is that it will make up the entire backdrop to your best summer or even fall, memories.
The price may be more than if you bought a few nights or a week at another waterfront resort, but once you’ve driven down the long dirt road, deep into the woods and come upon the little set up of 35 cottages along the water of Sebago Lake, you will not have a reason to ever leave nor will you want to. I don’t just mean you won’t want to leave during your stay for food or activities, I mean you won’t want to leave ever.
The pine canopy above you, the lanterned pathway before you, the cabin that you’ll easily refer to as “home” is just the start of what Migis Lodge is all about.
Have you ever been to summer camp? Migis is essentially a very, very prestigious summer camp.
The Dining experience at Migis;
Coffee is brewed and ready at 6 am, just inside the Living Room by their gorgeous stone fireplace. Breakfast is served in the Dining Room from 8 am to 9:30 am, both a breakfast menu and a breakfast buffet are options. And if you’d like to sleep through breakfast (me, me!) they offer fresh pastries out in the Living Room. Because they think of everyone!
Lunch is in the Dining Room from 12:30 – 1:30 and it’s a daily changing menu.
Dinner is from 6:30 – 8:30 in the main Dining room, another daily changing menu. It’s a five-course, gourmet meal that ALWAYS has lobster on it! As well as plenty of other meat options and vegetarian choices. Because they think of everyone.
Saturday night is a famous gourmet buffet and though our stay wasn’t over a Saturday evening, I have no doubt that this would be incredible!
At every meal, in the dining room, they offer their children’s menu as well as your child being able to eat off of the main menu. During dinner, you can send your children to their children’s program called Zoo (5:30-9 pm), which allows your children to eat supervised with other children at the resort and then have playtime afterward while you enjoy your time alone. This is available for children of all ages, children under 3 are provided with a one-on-one babysitter!
If you’d rather your kids try dinner with you any or all of the nights of your stay, that’s fine too. They’ll just sit you in the “family” area of the dining room where you can have a little of the pressure off of you if your kids make noise or a mess. Because they think of everyone.
Dinner in the main Dining Room is a formal event, men must wear a sports coat and no denim is allowed (not applicable to children under 13). They also have a no cell phone policy in the Dining Room.
(a secret photo snuck, otherwise we honored the cellphone free dining room experience. And these were snacks for the baby, not one part of our five-course meal)
Summer Activities at Migis;
During the summer Migis Lodge offers fishing, water skiing, wakeboarding, kayaking, and canoeing. Wednesday’s is Bingo. On Thursday’s they have a bonfire with s’ mores. Friday evenings they have a Lobster Bake followed by Karaoke. All for the entire family.
Migis has 3 tennis courts and private, group and junior lessons can be scheduled. Our oldest desperately wants to go back and experience this! Migis has a whole list of additional classes for you to participate in as well as an open-air gym.
You can take any of the boats out to Migis’ own private island, we did this every day! And if you’re a boat owner, you can even dock your boat in their little marina.
During the summer, they offer a daily camp for kids 4-6 and another more adventurous one for children 7 and older. You can find more information about those camps here!
Autumn Activities at Migis;
Because Autumn is so incredible in Maine, Migis doesn’t end it’s glorious resort. Sunsets over the lake will make you happy that you chose to visit the resort after the busy summer months. They have wine tasting events and organized hikes as well as a daily, morning boat ride along the lake. All of the boats are still available for your use and the gym and the wellness center are happily waiting for you!
Now, our stay was in mid-September and it was absolutely idyllic. We had a quiet experience because children were already back in school, but we did not lose out on the glorious impression that one staying at Migis Lodge is bound to be left with. We met several other guests at the Lodge and all of them had been coming for several years.
If you do a lot of traveling, like we do, you meet a lot of wonderful destinations. But not all of them yearn to become a constant in your annual travels. Only the really special ones do. Migis Lodge is one of the really special ones.
We were fortunate enough to be hosted by Migis Lodge and I’ll admit, it’s been one of the kindest gifts I’ve ever been given. All thoughts are our own and honest. And forever grateful.
